The Pavements Shopping Centre Page
The Pavements Shopping Centre was opened in 1981 by their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales. It had taken nearly three years to complete and special attention was paid to the conserving and styling of the shop fronts since nearly all the original buildings along Low Pavement were listed as being of Architectural or Historic Interest. The Shopping Centre now acts as an anchor for the town centre shopping experience and houses many high Street names familiar to town centre shoppers.

The multi-storey car park in Beetwell Street is of a most unusual design because it gives the appearance of a Victorian mill. The car park is directly linked to the shopping centre by a pedestrian bridge at Car Park Level 4.

Further development on the town centre has led to the recent opening of the Vicar Lane Shopping centre and Car Park, again developed towards making Chesterfield one of the best preserved and thriving places in Derbyshire
