On the second Thursday of each month, Chesterfield Market hosts the increasingly popular Farmers Market. Specialist traders from across the East Midlands crowd onto Low Pavement selling speciality goods from local farms and workshops.
In July each year, the market place is turned into a Mediaeval Market where many local charities use the stalls to publicise their work and to boost their funds. The bottom of Market Square is set out as a fairground with many popular amusement rides.
On Sunday 23 November there will be a spectacular Christmas Market held to accompany the switch-on of the Christmas Illuminations. For more details please click on the button below.
Markets have been held in Chesterfield since ‘time immemorial’ but the first legal weekly markets were held in under a charter granted by King John in the year 1204 and they have continued to function without interruption to the present day.

Saturday is the longest established day; the Monday market was first held in 1923, Friday added in 1965 and the Thursday flea market in 1983.
